Trio #46 The Zones

We bring to you a related set of 3 actionable tips, ideas & advice (mostly from Twitter)! These are meant to expand your thinking, knowledge & empower you to be the best version of yourself. The links (people, tools & processes) are also meant to add value :)

Note - We do not include all tweets in a thread sometimes to avoid hitting email limits & readability. You can always access the whole thread by clicking on the 1st tweet. We append (….) in such cases.

Today's theme is: The Zones

Getting in the “Zone” is often referred to describe the process of achieving deep consistent focus (flow state). Or well..the Friendzone 🐒

Here we look at some more “useful” zones & how to get into them ;)

  1. Sahil Bloom’s great thread on the Zone of Genius - a concept popularised by David Perrel & Jack Butcher

A few weeks ago, I shared a thread—How to Win (without talent or luck)—that got a lot of attention. One of the most popular insights I shared was the idea of operating in your Zone of Genius. But I got a lot of questions about how to practically achieve that... https://t.co/HAuxoPeKp6

Your Zone of Genius is where your interests, passions and skills align. Operating in it means you stop playing *their* games and start playing *yours*. This thread shares my framework—built through personal struggle—for finding and operating in your Zone of Genius:

First, let's get one thing straight. Everyone has a Zone of Genius. "Genius" here is a relative term, not an absolute. It's not about being top 1% at something—it's about the unique space where your relative strengths are accentuated (and relative weaknesses masked).

Leadership is hard. One of the hardest parts is delegation. How much guidance do you give? When do you do it yourself? When/How to track others to-dos? As a young leader, I wish I had a cheat sheet for delegation. So I wrote one. Read this 🧵 to accelerate your career:

1/ First, the biggest delegation mistake I see leaders make: either 'abdicating' or 'micromanaging' Abdicating is when you hand over a task/responsibility and disappear assuming it's getting done. Micromanaging is directing every little thing your report does. Which do you do?

2/ Probably both! But that depends on: 1) The persons seniority 2) their level of skill for a given task 3) the situation at hand. The two tools I use to help me do this well: Ladder of Leadership (LL) and Task Relevant Maturity (TRM) Here's how they work:

3/ Consistently meeting your team where they are and helping them stretch is key. It becomes easier when there is "common language" the whole team can use to signal this to each other. The Ladder of Leadership solves this! Here’s how it works:
